Questions about Totara Learn

Functionality designed to improve efficiency and skyrocket engagement

Totara Learn is available through Titus on a subscription basis—and as an open-source platform, it’s extremely competitive compared to other solutions on the market.

Exact costs will depend on the number of users you have, plus any additional costs for services such as hosting, training and support where needed. To get an accurate quote for your organisation, speak to one of our team.

Yes, Totara Learn can be used as a stand-alone Learning Management System, or alternatively it can be combined with its sister products, Engage and Perform to provide a 360-degree learning and development solution.

That’s up to you. Totara Learn, and the other products in the Totara TXP can be hosted on a shared or dedicated web server on your premises, in a data centre of your choosing, or on our AWS cloud infrastructure.

In most cases we recommend going for the cloud option—it makes scaling, availability and reliability easier to manage, and with elastic hosting you can control costs better. But where there’s a need for an on-premise solution, we’re happy to set that up, and we can manage it remotely if required.

Really, there are two questions here—how secure is the application, and how secure is the hosting environment where it sits.

For the former—Totara Learn receives continual security updates, and administrators have access to a range of configurable site security settings.

For the latter, we use AWS for our cloud hosting, which boasts best-in-class protection across the security mix. For detailed info, check out our Totara Hosting page or get in touch with one of the team.

There’s no absolute limit. Totara customers range from startups to huge multinationals with user numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

Practically, it’s a question of infrastructure. Larger userbases will require more sophisticated hosting to ensure reliability and availability even under peak load. Titus has extensive experience deploying LMS at this kind of scale, and we can advise you on the hosting package and infrastructure design you’ll need to meet your requirements.

Yes. Totara Learn’s multi-tenancy functionality is ideal for organisations who want to run several learning management systems, but retain central management, administration or resource sharing to some extent. Examples include departmental platforms, customer/partner platforms, or platforms for separate brands under a single company.

Each tenant site can have its own branding, courses, content, etc—and from a user viewpoint is a self-contained LMS. On the system level, however, tenants can be managed centrally, and sharing settings, resources, etc between them is far simpler than it would be with separate platforms.
