MoodleMoot Benelux

At the beginning of every year, everyone at Titus Learning updates their calendar with the events they will be attending, and one of the events everyone always looks forward to with excitement is the various MoodleMoot’s. We’re now into the later stages of 2019 and by the end of the year, we will have visited Moots in at least 3 countries worldwide, the UK, Japan, and MoodleMoot Global in Barcelona, Spain.

MoodleMoot’s do truly reflect the core message of open source and community learning that Moodle champions, they’re community-driven events organised by Moodle users aimed at sharing ideas, development projects and an opportunity for improving your knowledge of all things Moodle. Since those early days, Moots have developed and as opposed to being completely community-led, HQ has joined forces to bring a new dimension to the events.

MoodleMoots are spread across the entire globe and popping up in new areas all the time. We always keep our ears to the ground to hear about any new Moot’s announced, and we were thrilled to hear of the announcement of the first official MoodleMoot Benelux, which will be the closest MoodleMoot to us after the UK and Ireland event.

MoodleMoot Benelux was formed by Ned-Moove, which is a union of Dutch Moodle Users aimed at bringing together organisations interested in development, research and teaching practice using Moodle. The theme of MoodleMoot Benelux is ‘professionalism’, aimed at tackling the misguided interpretations people sometimes have of Moodle being amateurish. On top of this, MoodleMoot Benelux will also be talking about user experience and will be demonstrating case studies of fantastic Moodle platforms.

We spoke to Gert and Gemma, two of the leading founders of MoodleMoot Benelux to speak about what people should expect from the event, and on top of the 15 individual break out sessions, we were thrilled to hear that the MEC program is going to be a large focus of the event. We’re huge advocates of the MEC program at Titus and have been running a number of successful cohorts, so we were thrilled to find the MEC getting the attention it deserves.

MoodleMoot Benelux will be held on the 23rd of October, only 27 days away. To secure your place, register on the button below –

Moodle Workplace – Everything you need to know

Back in February at the Learning Technologies conference, the Titus team was on hand to witness a monumental announcement to the world of e-learning and Moodle, the official launch of Moodle Workplace.

Ever since that announcement the team have been discussing its release and implications with eager excitement. It’s clear to all of us, and anyone in the e-learning world how transformational Moodle Workplace will become. As a Certified Moodle Partner, we’re naturally extremely interested in any development or upgrade to Moodle, but the launch of Moodle Workplace is in a class of its own when it comes to the effect it will have on the Moodle community worldwide.

Moodle Workplace is available now, but as we were preparing for its release internally, we found that only a few people were aware of what it is, and the features it has that make it the perfect LMS for workplace learning.

That’s why we teamed up with Gavin Henrick, who was part of the Moodle HQ team that worked on this project, to provide a complete overview of Moodle Workplace. In this webinar we offer an introduction to Moodle Workplace, share our thoughts around its release, discuss the development roadmap from Moodle HQ and demonstrate its brand new features.

Two useful content types for H5P explained

If you follow any of the Titus Learning social media accounts or blog posts, or if you have simply been in contact with one of the Titus team you will have definitely heard us talk about the many benefits of H5P. It is undoubtedly one of our favourite Moodle plugins and offers endless possibilities in creating free, interactive content for your e-learning platform.

In the H5P August release notes, they announced the introduction of two entirely new content types. Below we explore the new content types and give you a chance to try them out.

Advanced Fill In The Blanks –

The first of the new content types is Advanced Fill In The Blanks, which allows authors to create ‘fill in the blank’ activities with incredible feedback. These activities can be a little more complicated to create to the regular Fill In The Blanks activity, but this translates into more options in giving detailed feedback, allowing users to truly understand what they did right or wrong, and how to improve from there.

Similar to other Fill In The Blank activities, a user is given a number of sentences with a section or word missing, from here they will be prompted to fill in the missing space, and once the user has submitted their answer they will be told whether this is correct. If their answer is incorrect, the user is given different feedback depending on how incorrect their answer is. For only minor mistakes, they will receive a warning of what their error is encouraging them to have another go, if their mistake is worse, feedback is shown to highlight their mistake and draw their attention to the relevant parts

Find The Words –

The second new content type is the introduction of the classic crossword. This content type doesn’t need much of an explanation, but very simply you insert a number of words the user has to find, these words are then placed in a large jumble of random letters and the task is for the user to find the words within the jumble.
