Introduction
Wellington College International, Tianjin (WCIT) is a is a co-educational day and boarding independent school serving a community of close to 1,500 students between the ages of 2 and 18. Its sister school, Wellington College International Shanghai is also a client of Titus Learning.
Problem
The school had an existing Moodle learning platform in place, however it had not been well utilised, and was not integrated into day-to-day teaching and learning. Wellington College were on the verge of seeking an alternative platform when they were introduced to Titus Learning by a previous member of senior management.
“Titus Learning was presented to us by our previous Group Director of ICT. He had contact with some of the current managers … and found them to be energetic and responsive.” – Gregor Markovic, Head of ICT, WCIT
Action
Following a detailed consultation, Titus Learning were able to demonstrate to the Wellington College team how Moodle could be utilized as a platform to meet each of their requirements. The Wellington College team were receptive to Titus Learning’s collaborative approach and keen to get the project underway without delay.
“Here in WCIT we usually find working with young teams in developing companies with good ideas, positive energy, and a flexible approach beneficial to both sides, and Titus Learning was no exception – we quickly agreed upon all terms and requirements, and the Titus team started work immediately.” – Gregor Markovic, Head of ICT, WCIT
Titus Learning’s remote management facility allowed the school to host the new Moodle installation on their own infrastructure on-site, which is of particular importance in China due to restrictions on international Internet traffic.
The technical support team at Titus would still be able to remotely monitor the server, providing security patches and updates as needed and offering advice to the Wellington College team on how well the platform was being used.
“Ours is perhaps a specific case, as digital communication in China can be quite different to what we are used to overseas, but together we managed to overcome problems and our VLE was set up and ready to go.” – Gregor Markovic, Head of ICT, WCIT
Results
The new Moodle integrates with the school’s management information system, iSAMS, creating significant time savings for the Moodle administrators within school. The integration allows automated creation of user accounts and courses, automatic updates when students change year group, and auto-enrollment of staff and students into courses.
“We are still in the early rollout phase, with lots of new staff in this year, but those experienced in Moodle have found this version more efficient and easier to use. We look forward to working with Titus Learning in the future, implementing new VLE developments as they become available.” – Gregor Markovic, Head of ICT, WCIT
