This week we were delighted to hear that one of our clients, The Blue Coat School, has been nominated for a prestigious TES Award in the category “Strategic Education Initiative of the Year”.
Located in Birmingham, The Blue Coat School is an innovative Prep school, providing pupils with regular opportunities to celebrate their achievements in all areas of learning and personal development.
The Blue Coat School was first introduced to Titus Learning at the 2017 Bett Show, and following detailed discussion of the framework over the following weeks, both parties developed a plan to collaborate on the creation of a bespoke BCS Blue tracking system.

Staff at the school met regularly with Titus co-founder Mike Bennett and the company’s developers in order to design and engineer the perfect platform to measure, track and share pupils’ attainment with staff, pupils and parents.
BCS Blue comprises a custom version of the Titus e-learning platform, built on Moodle, which integrates fully with the school MIS, iSAMS.
This allows the automatic synchronisation of pupils and their groups with the e-learning platform. The result is a best of breed combination of technologies: an industry standard management information system integrated with a bespoke learning platform.
The custom built grading system gives teachers a high level overview of pupils’ progress as they move through the terms and years with a clear layout of the topics and objectives.
When a teacher logs in they are shown a list of their courses and clicking on a link shows a table of pupils with photos and their subjects.
Grading pupils is done with a click of the mouse, incrementing the mark and changes the colour code. The colour coding allows an easy ‘at a glance’ assessment of pupil progress. pupils can be graded individually or in bulk, by teaching group, year group, subject, etc.
At the start of each term the grades are automatically swept into the new term so the pupils’ effort is kept up to date but the historic progress is preserved. This allows teachers to identify where pupils need additional attention and to ensure they are progressing as expected.
A bespoke Moodle theme ensures BCS Blue reflects and communicates the Blue Coat School’s brand and values, as well as presenting users with an intuitive and accessible visual interface to improve engagement and encourage regular use.
Responding to news of the award nomination Seb Francis, co-founder and director at Titus Learning, commented:
“We’re incredibly pleased for the team at Blue Coat School, and proud to have been involved in the development of BCS Blue, which supports the school’s strategic objectives around online learning. We believe that the holistic approach of the BCS Blue Tracking System is unique and puts The Blue Coat School at the forefront of innovation in this area.”
