The Researchers in Schools programme (RiS) brings together PhD graduates and non-selective secondary schools in the UK to allow graduates to contribute their subject expertise and knowledge of research, and to make a positive impact on pupils while championing university access. Participants benefit from targeted support from RiS during their training year and the early stages of their teaching career.
Following a competitive tender process, RiS selected Titus to deliver a
bespoke solution based around two Moodle Workplace platforms—hosted in the Amazon Web Services cloud and backed by a full management, support and training package.
Our development team designed and implemented a number of custom features to ensure that the platform capabilities mapped accurately onto the specific requirements set out by RiS, including full testing, maintenance and ongoing version updates over the period of the contract.
Our work with RiS has furnished them with a custom Moodle solution that supports the specific requirements of the Brilliant Club programme.
As a student-accessible platform, it was a key requirement that the RiS e-learning environment incorporated protection and safeguarding features.
Titus worked with RiS to design and implement a content moderation functionality which scans and blocks content or messages containing banned words, or language relating to bullying or harassment.
A key use case of the solution was to allow online assessment and marking of student submissions across a range of media, without creating unnecessary work for teaching staff.
We implemented a custom marking scheme to streamline the grading process, allowing staff to refer to existing guidelines and rubrics and mark work in line with these standards quickly and efficiently.
As part of the solution design and deployment, Titus incorporated seamless integration with external software tools already in use by member schools and PhD graduates.
This included integration of the Moodle platforms with Salesforce CRM to automatically synchronise and update data between the two applications, and integration with Zoom to allow videoconferencing sessions to be initiated within the LMS.
