Introduction
Guiseley School first met with Titus Learning in 2014 to explore the possibility of implementing a new online learning platform. The school was already using a disparate set of software tools, but there was no integration between them.
They were unable to support the blended learning approach they wished to offer students, share vital data with parents, or offer staff an easy way to complete administrative and pastoral tasks without duplication of work.
Titus Learning developed an online learning platform for the school called Satchel, and linked this to the EduLink One application.
EduLink One integrates the school’s Satchel platform with their SIMS system, meaning that important data can be synchronised between the two systems in real time. Appropriate items of data can be made accessible to staff, parents and students via a desktop interface or an app on their tablet or smartphone.
“The staff at Guiseley School have adapted to the new platform quickly, and are providing innovative, exciting lesson content, with assignment submission, embedded videos, and tutorials, all of which lends itself to a successful VLE for students to use.”
Using EduLink One, Guiseley School are now able to address key challenges such as:
Improving communication between home and school
An instant messaging system allows the school to communicate with students, staff and parents via push notifications sent directly to their smartphone – as well as via email and SMS messaging.
Parents can use the app to notify the school if their child is going to be absent, and can also view overall attendance, behavioural and attainment summaries.
Reducing the administration workload on staff
Teachers can use the app to quickly and easily take registers, add notes on behavioural incidents or update grades for assignments, reducing the amount of paperwork needed.
Important documents can be sent directly to parents and students through the app, ensuring efficient communication and allowing instant notification when new items are added.
Engaging and informing students
An easy to use dashboard view gives students access to timetables, homework assignments, events calendars and key links within a few clicks.
Students can view their own achievement summaries, behavioural data and attendance, allowing them to take responsibility for their own learning.
“We would definitely recommend Titus Learning to other schools: the work they have done for us has been immense, they have gone above and beyond providing training for staff, and have provided a good looking and professional system for us to use.”
