British Gymnastics partnered with Titus to relaunch their eLearning platform, the BG Academy, as part of their Leap Without Limits strategy, focussed on providing an uplifting, safe, and inclusive gymnastics experience.
Sport simply doesn’t happen without a workforce, and it cannot thrive without a motivated and high-quality one that embraces a culture of continuous learning and development. That’s where the need for a refreshed BG Academy came in, designed to give coaches and staff an accessible and engaging space to support them in their continuous lifelong learning journey.
The goal was to ensure every learner could benefit from high-quality training opportunities, with a platform that was modern, easy to use, and capable of recognising achievement along the way.
By working with Titus, British Gymnastics delivered a platform that not only improved functionality and accessibility but also enhanced the overall learner experience with richer progress tracking, digital badges, and certificates to support professional growth and strengthen the sport’s future.
The Challenge: Aligning learning outcomes with learner needs

British Gymnastics had recently undertaken a landmark review of their learning and development programme. Over a six-month period, they conducted in-depth interviews with grassroots staff, volunteers, and stakeholders across the gymnastics community. The findings highlighted a clear need for a new strategic approach to learning and development, one that was more aligned with the experiences and needs of those directly involved in the sport.
From this research, several priorities emerged. The new platform needed to deliver:
Continuous personal and professional development opportunities that support both current and future roles.
A coherent, joined-up learning experience that makes the learner journey clear and structured.
Greater accessibility, with a simple, intuitive interface and support for learners with additional needs.
Progress tracking and recognition, including digital badges, certificates, and personalised feedback.
Consistent, high-quality courses underpinned by recognised industry standards.
- Contemporary, adaptable support, with content that can be updated quickly to reflect best practice and the latest developments in the sport.
These objectives shaped their decision to launch a new learning management system (LMS) in early 2024. The question was: which platform could deliver this vision effectively, and at scale?
The Solution: A Coherent, joined up learning experience
After consulting with the Titus team, it was clear that Moodle Workplace was the right fit for British Gymnastics’ requirements. The platform offered the flexibility, functionality, and accessibility needed to deliver against their ambitious objectives.

Moodle Workplace enables even the most complex training programmes to be delivered as a seamless journey. Through programs and learning paths, British Gymnastics can structure courses, activities, and resources into a single flow. This gives learners clarity on what to do next, while managers gain confidence that progress is aligned with organisational goals.
Greater accessibility and ease of use
With WCAG accessibility standards built in, Moodle Workplace provides a simple, intuitive experience for all learners. Features such as screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, and high-contrast displays ensure the platform is inclusive. Combined with a clean, customisable interface, BG Academy removes barriers and makes learning effortless, even for users with additional needs.
Tracking progress and celebrating milestones
Users of the BG Academy can now earn digital badges and certificates as they complete courses and programmes, helping them showcase their achievements. Managers are able to provide personalised feedback at key milestones, supported by real-time reporting dashboards. This makes progress visible and meaningful ensuring recognition is consistent across individuals, teams, and the wider network.
Always current, always relevant
The British Gymnastics team can now update courses and resources quickly and easily, ensuring that all learning content reflects the latest policies, procedures, and best practice in the sport. With dynamic rules and automation, new content is pushed to the right learners at the right time, keeping professional development relevant and timely.

“The new system has enabled us to deliver a complete shift in our approach to Judge Education, as much of the framework is now assessment-only. With support from Titus, we have utilised the Moodle quiz to provide learners with more varied assessments, while also allowing us to access detailed reporting that informs our ongoing review and improvement.
In addition, the system now enables our Workforce to deliver results and feedback directly to learners within the LMS. This means the entire learner journey can now be managed in one place — from the course welcome module through to receiving a certificate!”
