The Premier League is the highest level of professional football in England and one of the most-watched sports leagues in the world. Established in 1992, it brings together 20 elite clubs competing at the highest standard of the game.
Beyond its global entertainment value, the Premier League plays a significant role in driving standards across football, investing heavily in grassroots development, community programmes, and youth pathways. Its influence extends far beyond matchdays, shaping how talent is developed, supported, and sustained across the sport.
At the heart of this commitment is the Premier League Academy system, a structured pathway designed to identify, train, and support young players from an early age through to the professional level.
This system is underpinned by the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), which sets the benchmark for both on-pitch performance and off-pitch development. While clubs focus on technical excellence, the Premier League ensures every Academy player also receives a consistent foundation in education, wellbeing, and life skills.
Titus was commissioned by the Premier League to develop a specialised digital learning solution for its Academy system. The project’s objective was to translate a complex brief regarding the “Elite Player Performance Plan” (EPPP) into an engaging, mobile-first experience. Covering sensitive and vital topics – such as financial literacy, equality, and mental health – the final product was delivered as a robust SCORM package, ensuring high-fidelity tracking and seamless integration within the Premier League’s own internal LMS.
The Challenge: Reaching a Mobile, High-Energy Learner Group
The Premier League Academy faced a critical challenge: how to effectively deliver life skills training to 10,000–12,500 young players who are constantly on the move, digitally savvy, and highly focused on training and matches.
Existing learning approaches weren’t working:
- Generic content fell flat: Standard corporate-style courses didn’t resonate with elite athletes.
- Technical limitations caused friction: Mobile access was inconsistent, and data tracking was unreliable across devices and browsers.
- Fragmented learning: Important topics – from contracts and finance to wellbeing and equality – were scattered or difficult to standardise across all players.
The Academy’s challenge was to engage a high-energy, mobile-first audience with complex, sensitive topics, while maintaining consistency, accessibility, and measurable impact across the entire system.

The Solution: A Gamified, User-Centric Experience
Titus utilised a “narrative-first” approach, selecting Elucidat as the authoring engine to deliver a highly visual, responsive user journey.

Technical Action & Implementation:
- Bespoke Scripting & Scenario-Based Learning: We collaborated with Premier League stakeholders to develop “real-world” scenarios. By placing the player at the centre of the story, the course makes technical topics such as taxation, contracts, and social media conduct immediately relevant.
- Gamification Mechanics: To encourage proactive engagement, we integrated several custom features:
- Virtual Kit Personalisation: Learners could customise their own virtual football kits, which then appeared as a visual motif throughout the interactive elements.
- Digital Sticker Collection: Utilising advanced logic within the authoring tool, we created a digital sticker book. Players earned “collectable stickers” for completing key milestones, utilising a familiar mechanic to mark progress through the curriculum.

- Responsive Mobile Optimisation: The course was architected for “anytime, anywhere” access. We optimised all assets for performance on mobile networks, ensuring that players could engage with micro-learning modules during travel or between training sessions.
- Standardised SCORM Deployment: The project was output as a SCORM package to ensure full compatibility with the Premier League’s LMS. This technical choice enables consistent tracking of completion status, assessment scores, and engagement data across the entire Academy network.
Results: A Strategic Framework for Player Development
The “Life Skills” project provides a scalable and consistent training framework that supports the Premier League’s commitment to holistic player development.
Consistent learning at scale
Higher engagement and retention
Future-ready delivery
Strategic alignment with EPPP standards
This project demonstrates how learning can move beyond compliance to become a core part of performance and personal development.
By combining storytelling, technology, and user-centric design, the Premier League now has a scalable solution that supports not just better learners—but better prepared athletes for life on and off the pitch.
